Signicast has been outgrowing their Hartford location since it opened in 1993. Starting off with just 1 module and now with 6 completed modules and another in progress, they are at it again expecting to add more than 500,000 square feet and 500 employees over the next 15 years.
Design 2 Construct was chosen as the general contractor for the seventh and largest module which will add 110,000 square feet to the building. This module will house manufacturing that will be centered around creating molds which are used to fabricate metal components for other companies for the assembly of cars, motor cycles, guns etc.
This module is currently being completed on time and on budget and is scheduled to be completed in just a few more months. Design 2 Construct is no stranger to large-sized projects, however, this module will definitely be included on the top 5 list.
Currently the Signicast campus has about 385,000 total square feet, with the current expansion that will bring the total to almost 500,000 square feet. The expansion is being built just north of the company on 52 acres that they purchased back in 2011.
Signicast is a manufacturer of investment case metal which is where the name (Sign-I-Cast) came from. Rapid expansion has lead them to take a new approach called”Continuous Flow Manufacturing” allowing them to cut the time in half, if not more, and giving them the edge over much of the competition. They have also kept very true to their American business roots by keeping the business in Wisconsin and not outsourcing. Signicast prides themselves on having a product truly “Made in the USA” from start to finish.
